THE WILL OF THOMAS DENNIS  [Essex Probate 7536]

 

In The Name of God.  Amen. ye 22th day of May in ye year of or Lord God – one Thousand Seaven Hundred & Six I Tho Dennis of Ipswish in ye County of Essex in ye Province of ye Massachussits Bay Joyner beeing Sick & weak in body but of perfect Mind & memory thankes bee given unto God thearefore calling to mind that it is appointed for all men once to Die doe make & ordaine this my Last Will & Testament in Maner & form following & First of all I give & recomend my Soule into ye hands of Allmighty God that gave it my body I commend unto ye Earth to bee Interred in Descent maner at ye Discretion of my Executor heareafter Named hoping Through ye Merrit of Jesus Christ of a Joyfull resurection & as Touching Such worldly Estate as It hath pleased God to bless mee with in this life I give devise & Dispose as followeth

 

          Imprimis I give & bequeath unto my Deare & Loving wife Sarah ye use benifitt Improvement & Income of all & Singular my Estate during her naturall life if Shee continues my widdow & at her death Shee shall have Liberty to dispose as shee shall See cause of ye Sum of Twenty pounds as Mony in Consideration of what shee brought with her which Sum shall bee payd by My Executor according to her order in Three yeares after her Decease but in case Shee carse to Marry then Shee shall acquitt my Estate & all ye use whearof & benefitt whearby & my Sd Executor shall pay her ye Sum of Sixty pounds at Mony price

 

 Item  I give & bequeath unto my Grand Sonn Thomas Dennis Thirty pounds as pay when hee shall arrive at ye age of Twenty one yeares

 

  Item  I give & bequeath unto my Daughter Eliza Hovy & ye heires of her body One hundred pounds as pay with in Three yeares after ye decease or Marriage of my wife which of them shall happen first

 

 Item  I give & bequeath all ye rest of my Estate Reale & prsonall unto my Sonn Jno Dennis & his Heires for Ever freely to bee possessed & injoyed by him whom I Constitute make & ordaine only & Sole Executor of this my last Will & Testament utterly disalowing & revoking all other & former ratifying & Confirmeing this & noe other to bee my last Will & Testament in wittness whearof I have hear unto Sett my hand & seale ye day & year above written.

          This document was witnessed by John Caldwell, J. Staniford and Margaret Staniford and was proved by all three, 1 July 1706.

 

          John Dennis, Joyner, of Ipswich, with Matthew Perkins, of same, weaver, as his surety, was appointed executor on his father’s estate, 20 July 1706.
