Letter 4
June 10th, 1864 Davenport, Illinois
Dear Wife,
Here I am again in God’s World. Got here an hour or more ago. Left Washington D. C. on _______to Baltimore
at ______(Burlington (maybe)) _____ and stayed till morning. Then got to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania the
next A.M. We passed nearby the Ohio on
Thursday night and got to Chicago in the P.M. We rode all night in Illinois and
got here in Davenport, Iowa at about noon, where we expect to stop 3 or 4 days,
later in letter father said the boys all feel might good to get home
again. I have had quite a tramp since
last fall. Through Illinois, Kentucky,
Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia,
Washington D.C., Maryland, Ohio, and back to
Iowa. October 16th,
